"In his works, Bertone paints his own version of reality for us all to see. He shows life in bits and pieces, taken apart and put back together, more beautiful and colorful than reality suggests."

Painting since the mid 1970's, I found my inner voice to express my personal feelings about life and my childhood through painting. Coming from a tumultuous type childhood... I found, within myself, a place where there is a limitless to my imagination, beyond what we see everyday. I found joy and solace in painting and a sense of quietness in myself where I could paint bright colors that make me feel happy.

I started painting at a local art class in North Bergen, NJ at the age of 5. The classes were held in a small store that was rented out by a teacher named Pepe. That's when I fell in love with the smell of the oil paints. I still get a wonderful sense of comfort from the smell. My work evolved through painting and using color, line, and shape over the years. From simple geometric forms to more involved imagery . I love color and experimenting with color, line and compositions. My artwork comes from within me and expresses my imagination. Sometimes whimsical, other times more serious, or even surreal like, and sometimes they come from my dreams. My oil paint medium has a creamy consistency, so my brushstrokes are usually visible; giving a sense of texture or "feel" to my paintings.

I have to add that my Mother was a great influence on me and my artwork. Her love and support for me was what enabled me to follow my passion. She inspired me, and my approach to my work greatly! She worked 40 years working in the Fashion industry in New York: Her love for fashion, colors; and anything that was out of the ordinary during the 60's & 70's was inspirational!

"Robert's art will make you smile every time you look at it! Being a self-educated artist allowed him to create and establish his trademark style at an early age. His art has been showcased in galleries internationally. Robert's whimsical and suggestive art is enhanced by his genius of composition and color. Just imagine a large piece becoming a focal point of your space. I can easily design the room around it to compliment its beautiful colors."

Would love to hear from you!
